Nintendo Voted Top Tech Brand as Youth Say Wii, Wii!
The Nintendo Wii is the top favorite tech brand among America’s youth, according to a new study.
The 2012 Harris Poll Youth EquiTrend study conducted by research firm Harris Interactive found that the Wii gaming console had the highest score given by consumers under the age of 24 among all tech brands this year.
However, the poll, which calculates its scores by measuring "familiarity, quality and purchase consideration" for four tech categories — computers, mobile phones, computer tablets and video game platforms — tends to award video gaming systems more points than other technologies in the survey. They study was conducted online among 5,077 U.S. consumers ages 8 to 24 in August 2011. The margin of error was not given.
"For video gaming to have the highest equity scores compared to all other tech categories, and Wii the highest within the category, implies that Wii has serious potential to stretch into other products," said Jeni Lee Chapman of Harris' Brand and Communication Consulting group. Nintendo Wii was voted the video game platform brand of the year, followed by Sony Playstation 3 and Nintendo DS, respectively.
Apple brands swept the other tech categories, topping the personal computer, mobile phone and tablet computer categories. Apple was voted the top computer brand of the year, followed by Hewlett-Packard, Song and Dell, respectively. Meanwhile, Apple’s iPhone topped the mobile phone category list, surpassing HTC (No. 2), Samsung (No. 3) and LG (No. 4) devices.
The iPad dominated votes for the tablet computer of the year, placing first above Motorola Xoom (No. 2), BlackBerry PlayBook (No. 3) and Samsung Galaxy (No. 4).
