The Nintendo 3DS is a great thing, but the battery life leaves a bit to be desired compared to earlier non 3-D versions. The 3-D screen eats up a lot of power, and can cut the amount of playing time to under the three-hour mark.
Nyko claims its Power Grip will triple the playing time on a 3DS. That performance may not be quite attainable, as it seems to depend on using the power saving features of the 3DS. But even so, it still adds on quite a bit, getting to about six or six and a half hours.
Even that is a significant improvement on the three to five hours Nintendo says the 3DS can handle. It snaps on the back of your device (no annoying cables). It also recharges with a standard 3DS AC adapter. The drawbacks are minor: the battery indicator doesn’t tell you how much charge is left, so once your 3DS indicator is showing a drain that means the Power Grip is completely out of juice. That makes charging an all-or-nothing affair. That said, it’s a useful addition to the stock 3DS battery -- especially for people on long soujourns away from power outlets. And at $29.99 it won't break the bank.
