The majority of Facebook users are satisfied with their friend count on Facebook. According to a poll released today from Poll Position, 77 percent of adult users said they have "just the right amount of Facebook friends," 14 percent said they have too many Facebook friends and only 9 percent said they want more Facebook friends.
Poll Position conducted a telephone survey of 354 Facebook users . Results were weighted to reflect a representative sampling of U.S. adults ages 18 and over. Facebook users have an average of 130 friends, according to Facebook statistics.
The only age group that complained in significant numbers it didn't have enough friends on Facebook was the 18-to-29-year-old segment, at 27 percent. And at the other end, there were people who complained they had too many friends — 17 percent of those 30-to-44-years old and 17.1 percent of the 65+ age group.
The poll also broke down its results by sex, race and political party affiliation . Who is happiest with their Facebook friend tally? Among races, Hispanics (91 percent) said their numbers of friends were just right, compared to Whites at 76.6 percent and Blacks at 62.7 percent. Women (81.9 percent) are happier than men (72 percent) with their number of friends. Democrats (83.8 percent) are happier with their friend count than either Republicans (76 percent) or Independents (74.5 percent).
Need advice on how to cut the number of friends you have on Facebook? Jimmy Kimmel sponsored National Unfriend Day Nov. 17 and, on his Facebook page, continues to encourage Facebookers to "unfriend" those that are not truly friends. If you'd like more friends, Facebook can help. Click "Find Friends" on your wall page and Facebook will generate a list of people who are friends of your friends and allow you to import email contacts from a variety of services. Send friend requests and when they're accepted, those new friends will be added to your list automatically.
