If you’ve ever wanted to create a disaster movie on your iOS device, well, there’s now an app for that.
Bad Robot, the company behind the latest Mission Impossible film, not to mention the movie Super 8 and the television series Lost and Fringe, recently released the aptly named Action Movie FX app, which allows you to add “action movie” special effects to your home movies. The app is free for a limited time and comes with two FX: Missile Attack and Car Crash, both of which are inspired by Mission Impossible.
The app is very easy to use and the effects are visually and acoustically impressive. You simply fire up the app, choose your FX and then record your movie, using the onscreen guide to see where the effect will hit. After choosing when the effect will begin, the app will spend a few seconds overlaying your video with the effect and voila, you have a virtual missile crashing into your neighbor’s car.
If you’re happy with your video, you can even post it straight to Facebook or email it to your friends.
While the app does only come with two effects, in-app purchases can nab you a few more. Currently, the app has two double-packs, each for 99 cents — Chopper Down and Tornado Action, and Air Strike and Fire Fight.
Action Movie FX is available for many iOS devices, including iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPod Touch 4th Gen.
