Soundmatters has announced a pocket-size hi-fi subwoofer to add bass to portable speakers. The foxLO can be paired with the company's foxLv2 mini speaker or other popular brands such as Jambox to create a full-range audio system for iPhones, iPads, Macs and PCs.
Weighing in at around 1.5 lbs., the subwoofer offers 25-watt amplification using a patented linear magnetic drive. Founder and former NASA engineer Godehard Guenther, said the foxLO "stretches the laws of physics" by producing a wider range of bass sounds than believed possible in a unit of its size.
The foxLO subwoofer can be connected to a foxLv2 speaker's subwoofer output. Alternately, audiophiles can connect their music-playing devices to the subwoofer and then use its pass-through output to connect to a Jambox or other speaker without a subwoofer output.
The foxLO will debut next week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It will be available in Spring 2012 for $149 from online retailers including Amazon.com.
