Another Way to Make More Plugs
|
This column has featured a lot of power-strip and charging devices, because that’s a major pet peeve of anyone with a mobile device. Today we’re adding another to the list: the Flipit. For under $20 it’s a perfect accessory for travelling, but also at home when there are fewer outlets than one would like.
It works by putting a conductive plate between a plug and an outlet. Whatever is plugged in will get current from the pug as usual. The plate draws of about 1 amp worth, plenty for charging most devices (while tablets such as an iPad require more, they will charge --it will just take a long time and it isn’t recommended). This frees up an outlet and even solves some of the problem of most power adapters: that they take up more than one plug in the power strip.
