ARIS Sports Reinvents the Wheel

Surfers and snowboarders can “carve” into really sharp turns, but skateboarders have a tougher time because you can’t put the edge of the board into concrete. The angle you can tilt the board has always been limited by the size of the truck holding the wheels and amount of flex built into the bushings. Aris Sport has designed a skateboard called the Bladerunner with conical wheels, which allows for the kind of turns that are usually only possible on water and snow.
It may be literally reinventing the wheel, but the design is simpler than a lot of previous attempts to make skateboards behave more like snowboards. Aris is certainly pushing the idea that this can offer some of the same kids of performance, as it sells decks for the Bladerunner that are much more snowboard- and surfboard-like along with more traditional designs.
The company says the board will run under $200 and shipments are scheduled for the spring.
