Rupert Murdoch's iPad newspaper, The Daily, is headed for Samsung's Galaxy Tabs, other tablets and the iPhone.
Beginning later this month, The Daily will come preinstalled on Galaxy Tab 10.1 units sold through Verizon Wireless, according to a News Corp. statement. Tab owners will receive a one-week free trial, after which they can choose to subscribe for $3.99 a month or $39.99 for a year. The monthly option will be new to the Android app. Currently, iPad app users can pay $0.99 a week or $39.99 for a year.
The iPad Daily now has more than 200,000 monthly readers, with 100,000 paid subscribers, according to an Ad Age report. It was the third-highest grossing app in 2011, behind "Angry Birds" and "Smurfs' Village" in the App Store. The Daily launched in February of last year.
The Daily will be offered on the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 at a later date, was announced this week at CES. No word on whether The Daily will be available on the Samsung Note , a cross between a tablet and a cell phone, with a 5.3-inch screen and stylus input.
News Corp. has also announced it is developing a Daily app for the Kindle Fire (Amazon's $199 tablet launched last November) and one for the iPhone. Both are scheduled for release later this year.
