Dell Creating Second Android Tablet
The Dell 5-inch Streak tablet has been a poorly-kept secret for months now, but a set of leaked documents from the computer maker shows that Dell has a second, larger tablet in the works.
The extensive leak, courtesy of the tech website Engadget, included a wealth of information about upcoming smartphones and very little information about the Streak, other than it will be running the Android 2.1 operating system. However, details about the Looking Glass, a second Android tablet, are much more interesting.
The Looking Glass will be a 7-inch tablet, which still makes it 3-inches smaller than the Apple iPad, and it will also run Android 2.1 as it's operating system. What's interesting is what's inside it, namely the Tegra 2 processor from NVIDIA.
The Tegra 2 is designed for streaming media, especially high definition video. It's already planned to be included in tablets from several companies for that very reason.
The processor and integrated TV tuner show that Dell plans for the Looking Glass to be a dedicated media device. Unfortunately, its display will only have a 800x480 resolution, which is the same as the smaller Streak display.
Other specs gleaned from the documents include 4GB of RAM, 4GB of storage with an SDHC card expansion slot and a 1.3 megapixel forward-facing camera.
The Dell Looking Glass tablet is scheduled for release this November, but there are no pricing details yet.
