Shoes That Shift for The Terrain

Outdoorsy people sometimes have a set of boots for snow, another for climbing in the summer, and maybe one for fishing. The traction needs for all three situations are very different. But what if a single pair of shoes could cover more than one?
Korkers offers just that, with a line of boots that take interchangeable soles. The company has offered them on fishing shoes for some time, and has now expanded into winter boots. The company sells three different soles, called SnowTrac ($25), IceTrac ($30) and IceTrac Extreme ($40) for snow, icy ground, or true ice (as on a frozen lake or glacier), respectively. The soles snap right onto the boot, and can be changed without taking the boot off your foot.
While winter may be almost over, these are perfect for the summer climbing season at higher altitudes. And in some places — the high Sierras or the Rockies — the snow and freezing temperatures can persist well into April.
Obviously you have to buy the boots, as well, but they are competitive with other high-end brands, ranging from $140 to $200. You can purchase them from the Korkers website.
