Want perks for being social? Luxury discount shopping site Gilt now offers them. This week, Gilt announced its partnership with Klout, a service that scores people based on how influential they are on Facebook, Twitter and other social media. Gilt is counting on the Web's social butterflies to spread the news about its sales by offering discounts based on their Klout score.
Klout measures “social influence” on a scale from 0 to 100 based on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare and Google+ activity. The average score is 20, according to the company. Some very social shoppers will qualify for a 100 percent discount up to $100, but even those with scores up to 20 qualify for a 20 percent discount. Gilt and Klout have also launched a special sale curated by selected Klout influencers. Discounts and sales end at midnight, March 10.
To get in on this week's deals, you'll have to join Gilt and Klout. Once those registrations are completed, start shopping on Gilt and then collect your discount at checkout.
Social climbers will soon be able to boost their Klout scores with followers from YouTube video accounts, Flickr photo streams and the Instagram photo community. And more networks are on their way, including the question-and-answer site Quora, local review aggregator Yelp and social job-seeking service BranchOut.
So start updating your social networks now — and maybe you can qualify for the 100 percent discount before the weekend.
