Kindle Update Brings Facebook and Twitter Functionality
While the Kindle has had the ability to access the Internet since the first version, it's browsing abilities were very limited. Now Amazon is trying to expand functionality with a new update that allows the Kindle to integrate with Facebook and Twitter.
Don't get too excited, though. It's not full integration. Basically, Kindle version 2.5 firmware, going out to the Kindle and Kindle DX, will make it possible to share book passages with friends through Facebook and Twitter. Presumably they would have to be fairly short passages for Twitter — which has a 140 character limit — so be succinct.
The Kindle update also adds a few other improvements . The update will include the ability to organize books and documents into "collections," pan and zoom within PDFs, password protect an individual Kindle and make fonts larger and sharper.
The update is only being rolled out to a select group of testers for now, but is scheduled to go out to all Kindle owners at the end of May.
