New AAA App Lets You Book Hotels from the Road

Car navigation apps are plentiful, as are hotel-booking apps from providers such as Travelocity and Hotel Tonight. But today (April 2), AAA is combining all that in its TripTik Mobile app.
The GPS-based app adds to its listing of gas stations and prices the ability to also search hotels by their distance and book them right from the app. That isn't new: Several apps, including Hotel Tonight, can also do that. But TripTik combines several on-the road services in one app. The entries include TripAdvisor ratings as well. AAA members often get special deals at hotels.
AAA members can also register their member info and make roadside assistance requests right from the app
The free app provides most of the same services (including the new hotel booking) whether you are a AAA member or not. It's available on boh iPhones and Android devices. We found the iPhone app far snappier than the Android version (running on a Virgin Mobile Motorola Triumph).
Of course, it's best to plan ahead. But if you like to be spontaneous, this app will help.
