For years, photo pros and hobbyists have been playing with lenses, from a company called Lensbaby, that allow them to shift the point of focus in photos, creating artful blur effects around the subject. Now the company moves beyond DSLRs to the smaller "mirrorless cameras" — essentially a cross between DSLRs and point-and-shoots. A new version of Lensbaby's Composer Pro lens fits these mirrorless camera lines, including the Panasonic Lumix G Micro System, Olympus PEN, Sony α NEX and Samsung NX cameras.
The Composer Pro is a manual-focus lens that lets the photographer choose what part of the frame will be in focus. It uses a kind of ball-joint design that allows you to point the center of the lens in different directions. Lensbaby provides interchangeable optics that let you pick the amount of zoom and aperture, as well.
The new Composer Pro starts at $300 (in line with other pro-quality lenses) and is available from the Lensbaby website.
