Samsung's Android Tablet Could Be Released in Late Summer
Not wanting to be left out of the burgeoning tablet market, Samsung is said to be preparing a tablet of its own. Now details are surfacing about when and what we can expect.
Just two months ago, a marketing manager for Samsung in Australia let slip that the company would have a tablet to compete with the iPad later in the year. Now Korean publication Etnews is saying the Samsung tablet, tentatively called the S-Pad, could be out as soon as August.
Etnews also reports the S-Pad will run the Android operating system, originally designed for smartphones , and have a 7-inch Super AMOLED display, a type of Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) technology designed specifically for mobile devices because it is brighter , has more battery life and reflects less sunlight when used outdoors.
The S-Pad will also have Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, like the iPad, but unlike the iPad it will have a USB port for cable connections. Samsung also understands the importance of having content as an incentive to buy mobile devices. The S-Pad will be able to use the Samsung Apps store and get e-books from Korea's largest bookstore, Kyobo.
There are no details on pricing for the S-Pad yet.
