New Helmet Protects Baseball Pitcher from Concussion
More than any other player on the baseball diamond, pitchers risk concussion with every throw. As every player from the Baltimore Orioles' Chris Jakubauskas to minor leaguer Gunnar Sandberg will tell you, it only takes one comebacker to the head to end a season. To address this problem, Easton-Bell has released the first ever helmet designed specifically for pitchers .
Really more of an armored headband than a full helmet, the Dome protects pitchers' heads from 100 mph line drives that could cause everything from a few missed games to serious brain damage. Easton-Bell designed the helmet after watching videos from over 5,000 pitchers.
The Dome remains a prototype, but could enter the retail market later in the year. The helmet is designed primarily for little leaguers and college players.
