Shape-shifting Mannequin Shows How Clothes Look on Your Body
Deciding whether or not you want to buy clothing online can be difficult. No one likes paying for shipping and waiting a week to find out the dress that looked great on the model looks like a circus tent on you. That may be a problem of the past now, thanks to Fits.me's shape-shifting robot mannequin uses a catalogue of body measurements to show you exactly how that top is going to fit when it arrives in the mail.
As exciting as it would be to watch the FitBot's body become yours in real time, that is not exactly how the process works. When a clothing company signs up for Fits.me's services, they send a full collection of their clothes in every size. The robot mannequin has the ability to replicate 2,000 different body types and it cycles through all of them while it tries on the clothing.
During this process, each article of clothing is photographed while on the mannequin. This way, when you go the retailer's site and type in your measurements you can see exactly how those clothes would look on youâ??re own body .
The male version was launched in 2010. The intricacies of the female torso meant that women's mannequin required quite a bit more fine-tuning but has already proven quite successful. According to the company, a test run showed that use of robot mannequins increased sales by 300 percent, while reducing returns by 28 percent.
