Nobody disputes that Apple's designers and engineers in Cupertino make more than Chinese workers assembling iPads and iPhones in Foxconn factories. But a 2011 study has shown just how big the gap is between U.S. profits and the labor costs in the value chain for the popular tablets and smartphones.
U.S. profits from Apple's iPad sales dwarf the meager returns China gets from assembling the device in its factories.
