A free Netflix app is coming to Apple's iPhone this summer. The announcement was made at a conference in San Francisco where Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone 4, the latest version of the company's popular smartphone.
The Netflix app is already out for the iPad , where it has jumped to the number one spot in the entertainment apps section.
The iPhone version of the app will let people order and queue movies for viewing on the handheld device over both Wi-Fi and 3G.
Reed Hastings, the CEO of Netflix who spoke at the conference, said that the app "allows us to seamlessly switch between networks," so in theory streaming video should not be interrupted much.
Such ease of access may prompt new wireless customers to opt for the bigger of two new data plans from AT&T, which are available today. AT&T is the sole provider of coverage for the iPhone and iPad.
