Free Wi-Fi at Starbucks Starting July 1
Starbucks, the biggest coffeehouse in the world, will start offering free Wi-Fi at all of its company-operated stores in the United States on July 1, CEO Howard Schultz announced today at a conference in New York City.
The new one-click, registration-free Wi-Fi was also announced on Starbucks' Web site and Twitter feed. Customers were previously charged a small fee and had to sign up to access the Internet via Starbucks' in-store networks.
The new free Wi-Fi will be a boon to coffee-drinking Web users, and -- as Starbucks no doubt has calculated -- draw in people seeking free Internet access who might find the coffeehouses' beverage and pastry offerings simply too hard to resist.
