Amazon Launches Kindle Paperwhite, Available Oct 1 for $119
|
Today, Amazon announced the Kindle Paperwhite display, a grayscale eReader that sports a backlit display. In addition to having 25 percent more contrast, and a resolution of 212 pixels per inch, the Paperwhite’s screen glows in the dark, much like Barnes & Noble’s Nook Glowlight.
The Paperwhite has a light guide, and a thin fiber optic cable on top of the display. Light travels down the cable, and then it releases just the right amount of lighting across the display.
Even with the light on, the Kindle Paperwhite will last two weeks on a charge. At just .35-inches thick, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos claims that the Paperwhite is much thinner than your average magazine.
The Paperwhite will cost $119, and ship in October. A 3G version costs $179.
