Microsoft Tops Apple in Spam Keyword Survey
Microsoft products reign as the most effective keywords for spammers, followed closely by Apple's popular iPhone and iPad, a new survey revealed.
A recent study by security software firm Sophos monitored the number of times the words iPad, iPhone, Apple, and iPod were the subject of spam emails versus the keywords Microsoft, Office, Xbox, and Windows 7.
Conducted between Sept. 26 and Oct. 11, the analysis revealed that Microsoft was the tastiest bait for spammers, with 15,480 hits. But in a close second was iPad, with 14,315 hits. Office, (13,097), and iPhone, (7,839) took the third and fourth spots in the spam battle.
Security experts at Sophos contend that the rise of spam words related to Apple products is a direct result of Apple's rising market value.
