Love and LinkedIn Top Spam List
Professional and personal solicitations from LinkedIn and Russian dating sites topped the list of top 10 spam subjects in the past month according to security experts.
Antivirus firm Symantec analyzed the most prevalent subject lines in malware-infested spam messages sent over the past 30 days, and those from Katya 21 y.o, new message for you and Julia 22 y.o, new message for you, as well as LinkedIn Messages LinkedIn new messages, and LinkedIn Alert were at the top of the spam heap, noted Symantec researcher Suyog Sainkar.
Also appearing in the top 10 list were messages titled, Re: CV, hi!, hello, and You have got new messages(dating).
The dating spam, which often contained a message such as, I am Katya, 21 y.o, I am looking for man to have a strong family, directed users to a Russian online dating site. These attacks made up 33 percent the top 10 spam subject headers during the last 30 days, Sainkar wrote.
The fake LinkedIn spam messages directed users to a site that attempted to infect the computer with the Zeus trojan , a notorious piece of malware that primarily steals bank information. These messages accounted for 20 percent of the top 10 spam subject lines in the last 30 days.
