Some Tweets with 'Goo.gl' Link Are Out to Scam You
A worm is crawling through Twitter, sending out malicious links without users' permission.
The tweets have no message, and only include a shortened URL beginning with http://goo.gl (Googleâ??s URL-shortening program), according to Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for the British security firm Sophos.
If clicked, the shortened link takes users to a website that tells them they have a computer virus and directs them to install anti-virus software. The software, of course, is fake, and installing it will give the online attackers access to users' accounts.
This type of rogueware scam in which users are tricked into purchasing corrupt anti-virus software has been present on Twitter since December. Security experts advise Twitter users to change their passwords if their accounts have been spamming out the malicious links.
