Like It or Not: Facebook 'Dislike' Button is a Scam
There may be aspects of Facebook you don't like, but today is not the day to make your online voice heard.
Today's entry into Facebook's long, undistinguished list of security slip-ups comes in the form of an enticing, but ultimately phony and harmful "Dislike Button."
Spotted by the security firm Sophos, the scam is currently spreading via wall posts that read, "Facebook now has a dislike button! Click 'Enable Dislike Button' to turn on the new feature."
What separates this particular bait from similar scams that have come before including an app to find out who's blocked you is that the cybercriminals aren't luring victims in through a suspicious attached link; instead, they've managed to replace the standard "Share" option with a header titled "Enable Dislike Button."
If you're suckered into clicking the link, you'll be greeted not with the newfound power to dislike Facebook features, but by malicious code that runs on your computer, possibly gaining access to your personal information.
Remember, Facebookers, there is no official "dislike" button on Facebook, so if you come across this offer, ignore it.
