Well, that was quick. Shortly after announcing a new Kindle app for iPhones, iPads and iPod touches , Amazon has released a Kindle app for Android phones. This announcement confirms months of speculation and planning, and ensures that Amazon will stay competitive even amongst eBook readers who don’t buy a dedicated Kindle device.
The Kindle app for Android phones provides many of the same functions as the iPod touch/iPad/iPhone version. Users can shop the Kindle store on the go, add bookmarks and even annotate the text.
However, the video and audio capabilities announced in the Apple version of the app earlier today remain curiously absent from the Android version of the Kindle software. Maybe in the next update?
