Citigroup announced this morning (June 9) that hackers breached its computer networks and gained access to the personal banking information of more than 200,000 customers.
The hack exposed names, account numbers, addresses and email addresses of about 1 percent of Citi's 21 million North American bank card customers , putting the total number of customers affected at around 210,000, the Financial Times reported.
Social Security numbers, dates of birth and card expiration dates and card security codes (CVV) "were not compromised," Citi said in an emailed statement.
Bank officials detected the intrusion in early May "during routing monitoring," Citigroup said.
Citigroup did not immediately respond to a call for comment.
