Microsoft Kin, we hardly knew ye. After only a few months on the market, Microsoft is discontinuing its Kin line of smart phones. The Kin, a simpler smart phone aimed at younger users, failed to find an audience in an already crowded marketplace.
Microsoft will continue selling the Kin One and Kin Two in the U.S., but canceled the European release of the device.
The engineering team behind the Kin will now join their Richmond colleagues to work on the Windows 7 Phone . The Windows 7 Phone, which Microsoft plans on releasing later this year, is the company’s attempt to compete with Apple’s iPhone, and will presumably incorporate some of the integrated social networking features central to the Kin.
