More Women Using iPads, Yahoo Analysis Shows
While the Apple iPad may have been a boy's toy at launch, new data from Yahoo shows that women are increasingly using the Apple tablet.
Yahoo is in an excellent position to gather this data because it is such a widely used portal for Internet traffic. Just after the iPad launch, Yahoo did a similar traffic analysis but the results were not representative because the device had only been on the market for 9 days.
The new iPad analysis from Yahoo is much more important because there are many more iPads to track – over 3 million sold to date – and many of those iPads are outside of the U.S. so Yahoo can get a look at international traffic.
The latest round of iPad traffic data shows that iPad owners are older, on average, than users for other devices. Most iPad users are in the 30-54 age range. And women are using the iPad more. Previously there was a 2 to 1 ratio of men to women users; now the iPad has a 3 to 2 ratio of male to female owners.
Equally interesting are the numbers that show the iPad is a much more consumer-oriented device in America but overseas it is mainly for those extremely interested in technology. Yahoo data shows that international iPad owners are far more likely to visit tech-related sites than American owners, indicating the device might have less appeal to the average consumer outside of the United States.
