Windows 7 Tablets Coming by Year's End
While Windows 7 has lost some clout in the tablet market as the iPad and a multitude of Android tablets have been in the news, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer says there are still plenty of Windows 7 tablets coming by the end of the year.
After the HP Slate was canceled , interest in Windows 7 tablets has waned. The only Windows 7 tablet that still seems to be on track is the ASUS Eee Pad . However, at his keynote address for the Worldwide Partner Conference, Ballmer said there were several arriving "in the coming months."
"We know you really want to know what’s coming," Ballmer said.
Ballmer specifically mentioned Dell, ASUS, Samsung, Toshiba and Sony are working on Windows 7 tablets for release within months. There will apparently be a variety of form factors, including tablets with touchscreens, keyboards and digital ink.
While Ballmer didn't mention HP will have a Windows 7 tablet (the company appears to be working on a WebOS tablet for the time being), several people have pointed out that an HP tablet still appeared on Ballmer's presentation slide.
