New BlackBerry Teaser Shows Social Features in BlackBerry OS 6
After the first video of the upcoming BlackBerry operating system, BlackBerry 6, people were left confused by the all the dancing on the screen. The latest video from RIM does away with the choreography and just focuses on the new features.
BlackBerry OS 6 certainly looks sleek , which is good for a BlackBerry operating system because they are recognized as some of the clunkiest interfaces in mobile devices. The video shows off a few features previously seen, including the new media interface, which shows cover art and simplifies navigation, and the new WebKit browser, which has tabbed browsing and uses multitouch gestures.
But one of the most interesting things in this new video is the emphasis on social media and interaction. Of course BlackBerry Messenger shows up with a demo of sending media with messages. But then the video delves into other social features such as RSS feed management and the ability to post to multiple sites at once.
Under the Social Feeds icon, BlackBerry 6 brings up a screen that allows users to simultaneously post to sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Then the Social Feeds page tracks responses from all sites the user follows and can filter by site.
While BlackBerry has always been behind the curve in social media, it appears BlackBerry 6 will at least be a step in the right direction to bring BlackBerry phones up to date with the world.
