Normally the words "Interchangeable Lenses" are aimed at professional photographers and videographers, but it seems Sony thinks regular consumers are ready for it as well.
Today Sony announced the NEX-VG10E Handycam, an HD camcorder that isn't much bigger than other consumer-oriented Handycams, but which can accept multiple kinds of lenses for different shots. In fact, the lenses are often bigger than the camera.
The NEX-VG10E has a few more interesting features besides the lenses. The large silver part up top is an omnidirectional Quad Capsule Spatial Array Stereo Microphone. In layman's terms, that means increased audio quality, especially from whatever subject the videographer is shooting.
Sony's new camcorder takes full 1080p high definition video on a 14.2 megapixel image sensor. It also comes with an E18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS with 11x zoom. The NEX-VG10E Handycam will accept E-mount or A-mount lenses from Sony.
Given the interchangeable lenses and the improved audio, it's clear Sony is trying to bring professional-grade camcorders to a consumer audience. The price will still sting a bit for the average consumer, though. The NEX-VG10E will cost $1999.99 for the base model.
