HP Halting Development of Android Tablet
Hewlett Packard is consolidating their tablet plans even further after the company originally killed its Windows 7 tablet. The next casualty appears to be HP's Android tablet.
According to anonymous sources for All Things Digital, HP is indefinitely postponing development on its Android tablet. While there are no clear reasons, it's likely to do with the recent acquisition of Palm's WebOS mobile operating system.
Early reports on the HP Slate , the Windows 7 tablet, indicated the operating system was too clunky for use in tablets. It made sense, then, that HP would abandon it in favor of a WebOS tablet. However, Android is still viewed as an excellent option for a tablet operating system.
HP has made several comments about focusing heavily on WebOS development, so it's likely that this is a move to further refine Palm's operating system and make it tablet ready. HP's Jim Burns said during the Palm acquisition that the company would be spending increased resources on WebOS. That means the company could be taking Android tablet resources and putting them into development of a WebOS tablet.
So far this WebOS tablet is barely official . Current rumors indicate it could be available as early as this fall. Regardless, WebOS will be the only kind of tablet to expect from HP in the near future.
