Facebook Reaches Half a Billion Users
Facebook announced on Wednesday that it registered its 500 millionth member, doubling its user base in just one year.
The news comes on the heels of a report released earlier this week that Facebook was ranked in the bottom 5 percent of businesses for customer satisfaction.
Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to his site this morning to announce the news and also draw attention to a new application called Facebook Stories, which allows users to share their stories with the 500 million people currently using the site to stay connected.
“Half a billion is a nice number, but it’s not what really matters here,” Zuckerberg said in a video announcement. “What matters is all the stories we hear from all of you about the impact your connections have had on your lives.”
Users can submit their stories through the app or read what’s been posted by others. Stories can be organized through geographic locations displayed on a Bing Map or by various themes, including causes, support groups, movements, grief and rescues.
The Facebook Stories application is now live on the site.
