Microsoft Confirms Windows Phone 7 Device Manufacturers
Windows Phone 7 is expected to launch this fall, but the phones it will debut on were largely a mystery, until today. Microsoft has confirmed a list of official manufacturers that will have Windows Phone 7 devices ready when the mobile operating system launches.
Microsoft senior product manager Greg Sullivan told Pocket-lint that Windows Phone 7 would be launching on devices from Dell, ASUS, LG, HTC and Samsung.
While all those manufacturers have been rumored to be developing Windows Phone 7 devices, only Samsung and LG have actually shown their own hardware running the mobile operating system. Although, Microsoft also confirmed that the Samsung handset seen running Windows Phone 7 is not the final production model.
This news makes it likely that the Dell Lightning will be Dell's Windows Phone for launch, even though it is not yet official.
Sullivan also said Windows Phone 7 would not be exclusive to any carriers in the UK or the US, so anyone should be able to get a Windows Phone without switching networks.
"We want as many people as possible to be able to get it," Sullivan told Pocket-lint.
