Manufacturing problems have forced Apple to delay the release of the white iPhone 4 yet again. The elusive but hotly anticipated model will not ship until "later this year," the company said in a statement today.
This latest setback marks the third time the white iPhone 4's release has been pushed back. It was originally slated to debut alongside the black model in June, but was pushed to mid-July by Apple.
Then, during a press conference last week to discuss iPhone 4 reception problems, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said the release date had been pushed back to the end of July .
Apple has been vague about the reason for the delay, except to say that the white model has proven to "be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected."
But a recent investigation by tech site Engadget suggests the delay is due to problems associated with making and painting the iPhone 4's glass.
Apple says that availability of the black model of the popular smartphone is not affected.
