HP Slate Destined for Businesses, Not Consumers
The story of the HP Slate has been quite a rollercoaster, but we're finally seeing the end of the ride. Hewlett-Packard has explained that the HP Slate running Windows 7 will be headed to businesses instead of consumers.
HP Personal Systems Group VP Todd Bradley, speaking at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference, specified that the Slate will be launching for enterprise use in the fall and have a "customer-specific" launch instead of a nation-wide consumer launch.
This makes all the back and forth about the Slate come into focus. It was revealed at CES, then canceled , then morphed into a WebOS tablet, then reinstated as a full Windows 7 tablet . It seems that the original cancellation may have been the plans for a consumer launch while the enterprise version became a bigger focus.
The HP tablet running Palm's WebOS mobile operating system is still planned for a consumer launch.
