HP's photo service Snapfish today (Oct. 25) added a feature to its iPhone app that lets people send a photo print order to a nearby store for same-day pickup.
With the holidays just around the corner, the service could prove handy for sharing photos with relatives who aren't part of the Instagram craze. And handing photos to Uncle John will be more appreciated than a quick glimpse at your smartphone screen.
Here's how it works: Log into your Snapfish account or create one after downloading the free app from the App Store. You must upload photos from your iPhone's camera roll to Snapfish before you can order prints. Once you have uploaded, go back to your home screen by tapping the stacked photo icon and select "Buy prints." Choose 4-by-6-inch or 5-by-7-inch prints and then select a store.
The app lists nearby Walgreens, Walmart and Duane Reade locations where orders should be ready that same day, according to Snapfish. You can also change your location, so that others could pick up the photos, as long as they don't mind paying for them. The order summary will include a pickup time.
Snapfish users can also take photos from within the app, in which case photos will be automatically uploaded after you've previewed them, and that could be a valuable time-saver during the holiday frenzy.
