Remember when Google Earth was new and everyone spent time zooming in and out on their house? Well now there's a more practical use for it; Google Earth can tell you what the weather is like anywhere in the country.
The new version of Google Earth (5.2) includes a new weather feature that shows the current weather conditions all over the US and some parts of Europe. The cloud cover view gives a real-time look at what the weather is doing.
Enabling the clouds layer in the new Google Earth gives an overlay of the map where clouds are. And there is even a radar layer than can show where there is precipitation.
To be clear, this is not predicting the weather, it is simply showing what the weather is like currently. Some people are using it to track the progress of Hurricane Alex in the Gulf, but there are many uses for it.
